Courtois has been diagnosed with a torn meniscus and his season is over.

Lunin’s competitor will have a new operation, this time on his right knee

Goalkeeper Real Madrid Thibaut Courtois suffered his second serious injury of the season during training. The 31-year-old Belgian has been officially diagnosed internal meniscus tear right knee. Apparently, the player will need surgery again.

Let us remember that Courtois tore the cruciate ligament in his left knee during training in August, after which he underwent surgery. In his absence, the competition for the No. 1 post was won by the Ukrainian Andrei Lunin, who is having a brilliant season in goal for the Blancos.

Over time, it became known that the pace of Thibault’s recovery was ahead of the predicted time frame. It was reported that the Belgian has been training with the Blancos general group since the beginning of March. Head coach Carlo Ancelotti expected Courtois to return to action after the international break, that is, at the end of March – beginning of April.

The exact time frame for the Belgian goalkeeper’s recovery is still unknown, but it is clear that the season is definitely over for him.

As for Lunin, the Ukrainian played 23 matches this season (10 clean sheets, 19 goals conceded). It was previously reported that Madrid expect to extend the contract with Andrei if he agrees to the role of Courtois’ reserve.

Real are confidently leading La Liga nine rounds before the end of the season, eight points ahead of Barcelona and ten points ahead of Girona. In the next round, Blancos will host Athletic on March 31.
