Guti: I see Lunin as a Real Madrid goalkeeper in the future. He gained trust, although the year turned out to be difficult for him

The Ukrainian won the competition against Kepa Arrizabalaga and took advantage of his chance

Former Real Madrid and Besiktas midfielder, ex-Almeria coach Guti expressed support for the Ukrainian goalkeeper Blancos Andrey Lunin.

“I would extend the contract with Lunin. He deserves some serious money. I see him as Real Madrid’s goalkeeper in the future. This year was difficult for him, but Lunin gained confidence. I hope he also manages to avoid injury.”

Guti retired from football in 2011, after a period in Real Madrid, playing for Turkish Besiktas. In total, the midfielder played more than 570 matches for the Royal Club and scored 77 goals. The Spaniard’s coaching career included the youth teams of Real Madrid, the role of assistant coach in Besiktas and work in Almeria.

It was reported that the Blancos management is determined to keep the Ukrainian in the team. Real Madrid president Florentino Perez and head coach Carlo Ancelotti are of the opinion that “Lunin is now the best goalkeeper in La Liga.”

This season, Lunin played 23 matches (10 clean sheets, 19 goals conceded) for Blancos in all tournaments.

Real are confidently leading La Liga nine rounds before the end of the season, ahead of Girona and Barcelona. In the next round, Blancos will host Athletic on March 31.
