The Barcelona court agreed to temporarily release the former Brazilian national team and Blaugrana footballer Daniel Alves reports EFE.
According to the agency, during the hearing on March 19, the court considered the request of Alves’ defense and decided to release him on bail in the amount of 1 million euros until entry into force of the conviction. An appeal in the footballer’s case is currently being heard in court. During the hearing, in which Alves participated via video link, the athlete said he would not flee the country and that he “believes in justice” in the case.
Alves was previously convicted of sexual assault committed at a Barcelona nightclub in December 2022. He was sentenced to 4.5 years in prison, while prosecutors asked for nine years and the victim’s lawyer requested a maximum sentence of 12 years.
Alves is 40 years old. With Barcelona, the Brazilian became six times champion of Spain, four times winner of the Spanish Cup and Super Cup and three times winner of the Champions League.
