The Spanish prosecutor’s office has issued an arrest warrant against the former president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Luis Rubiales, reports Onda Сero.
The warrant was issued as part of an investigation into alleged illegal contracts over the past five years. According to the source, six other members of the RFEF have already been arrested and will appear in court tomorrow. These arrests follow searches carried out on Wednesday at the federation’s headquarters in Las Rozas (Madrid province) and at Rubiales’ home in Granada.
The RFEF, in its statement, offered its full cooperation to law enforcement.
— The RFEF offered its full cooperation to the police after the search at the federation’s headquarters. The organization has chosen a policy of absolute transparency. The Federation demonstrates deep concern about the events that occurred today and advocates maximum transparency, respect for the values that football represents and that its leaders must defend, the press release specifies.
In the spring of 2022, El Confidencial provided documents which, according to media reports, confirm that Rubiales pressured the Saudi authorities to pay 24 million euros to a company controlled by Barcelona defender Gerard Pique for the organization of the Spanish Super Cup in the country.
