General Secretary of the Russian Football Union (RFU) Maxim Mitrofanov raised the possibility of organizing matches of the Russian national team with the teams of Argentina and Brazil. From February 28, 2022, all Russian national teams and clubs have the opportunity to play friendly matches only.
“We had some contacts with Argentina and Brazil, but everything is very complicated there, including financially. These teams make money by having someone play with them,” Mitrofanov said at the Championship.
After the start of the special military operation (SVO) of the Russian armed forces in Ukraine, FIFA and UEFA suspended all Russian teams from participation in tournaments under their auspices. Since then, the Russian national team has played nine friendly matches (four wins and five draws).
The Russian national team will play two friendly matches at home in March. On March 21, Valery Karpin’s team will meet the Serbian team, and on March 25, the Paraguay team. Both matches will take place in Moscow at the VTB Arena.
