The former forward noted that the Ukrainian team went out to play to win and did their job
Former forward of Dnepr, Shakhtar and the Ukrainian national team Evgeny Seleznev commented on the national team’s victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina. The striker also spoke harshly about fans who criticize Sergei Rebrov’s team.
“Why was everything so difficult? Because Bosnia and Herzegovina also wanted to win. Why be surprised? I can’t say that our guys played very poorly, as many say. They played as they should and scored one more goal than their opponents. I don’t understand why the national team is being criticized. Well done guys, well done coach, well done everyone for winning. I don’t understand at all when people start criticizing. Either the game is not right, or something else is wrong. Go out and try it yourself, maybe you’ll do better,” Seleznev said.
“The guys themselves understood that this was very important. Everyone plays in good clubs, at a good level. What’s the pressure? They are simply responsible for the result, just like the head coach. But the guys did everything they could to win. I thank them for this. As a fan, I really enjoyed it.”
“I don’t like to say it’s a favorite or not a favorite. I was also a football player. Played a little football. I will say this: the team came out to play to win. They did it, they are beautiful. Everything, without exception. I don’t want to talk about who plays first, second or even third. The guys did their job. That’s all”.
In the semi-finals of the Euro 2024 qualifying playoffs, Rebrov’s team beat Bosnia and Herzegovina in strong style (2:1). Victory for Ukraine was brought by goals from Roman Yaremchuk and Artem Dovbik in the 85th and 88th minutes, respectively.
In the Euro 2024 qualifying final, Rebrov’s team will play against Iceland. The nominally home match for Ukraine will take place in Wroclaw on March 26. The meeting starts at 21:45 Kyiv time. The winner of the confrontation will advance to the 2024 European Championship, where they will play in Quartet E with Belgium, Slovakia and Romania.
