Spanish federation fires executives linked to corruption scheme

The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) fired executives who were involved in a corruption scheme with Saudi Arabia

Two directors were fired by the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), this Thursday, 21. The director of Legal Services, Pedro González Seguraand the director of Human Resources, José Javier Jiménezwere being accused of being part of a million-dollar corruption scheme, the scheme included irregular contracts with Saudi Arabia.

The entity declared that the executives’ scheme caused “severe damage” to the image of Spanish sport. This impact on Spain’s reputation in football could harm its bid to host the 2030 World Cup.

Last Wednesday, the 20th, the country’s police carried out an operation at the federation’s offices and in an apartment belonging to the former president, Luis Rubiales. In total, seven people were arrested for their involvement in fraudulent negotiations with the Saudis.

Tomás González Cuetowho was arrested, and Ramon Caravaca were removed from their activities with the RFEF. Both were part of GC Legal, for legal advice and no longer provided services to the federation.
