Iniesta accused of tax evasion while playing for Vissel Kobe

The legendary midfielder faces a fine of about 3.5 million euros

Legendary midfielder of Barcelona and the Spanish national team Andres Iniesta is accused of tax evasion in Japan, where he played for Vissel Kobe between 2018 and 2023.

Iniesta faces a fine of 580 million yen (about 3.5 million euros) for undeclared income of 5.2 million euros related to his contract with Vissel Kobe in 2018.

Japanese authorities believe Iniesta had to pay taxes as a resident because his family lived with him in Japan and his contract with Kobe was for several years.

Iniesta left Vissel Kobe in June 2023, the midfielder agreed to early termination of his contract with the club. Andres played his farewell match for the Japanese team against Barcelona.

In August last year, Iniesta joined the Emirates Club from the UAE. In March 2024, the Spaniard played his thousandth match in his professional career.
