Leicester sues Premier League after allegations of financial breaches

One day after being denounced by Premier League for alleged financial violations and suffer a ‘transfer ban’, theLeicester announced that it will take action against the organization. Thus, the club made it official that it will take legal action against the English league and the national federation due to accusations of financial violations.

Relegated to the English second division last season, Leicester is having a good campaign and is in the league’s playoff zone, which allows them to dream of returning to the Premier League. However, the club was accused of failing to comply with the league’s profit and sustainability rules and will therefore be investigated by an independent commission.

In this situation, if Leicester is punished and gains access to the Premier League, the club may have points deducted next season, already in the national first division. Because of this, the club announced on its official channels that it is going to court to combat these accusations.

“Leicester were today forced to launch two urgent legal proceedings against the Premier League and the EFL. The club will seek to have each of these processes determined by an appropriate and fully independent legal panel. The Club is committed to ensuring that any charges against it are determined appropriately and proportionately, in accordance with applicable rules, by the right bodies and at the right time,” said in an official note.

To date, the club has not published the balance sheet for the 2022/2023 season, which ended with relegation. However, in the previous two years, Leicester recorded a loss of 125 million pounds, around R$787 at the current price, 20 million pounds, R$125 million, above the allowed value.
