Nottingham Forest appeal against deprivation of four Premier League points for violating financial fair play

Hearings must take place by April 12

Nottingham Forest filed an appeal against the deprivation of four points in English Premier League for violating financial fair play. Hearings on the case will take place until April 12.

Let us remind you that the League announced that the club violated the rules on “profits and sustainable development.” Nottingham Forest exceeded the permitted loss threshold (61 million pounds) by 34.5 million.

Nottingham tried to ensure that the Premier League included the sale of Brennan Johnson to Tottenham, which generated £47.5 million in revenue, for the period. But this transfer took place in September last year – after the deadline calculated by the league commission.

Since the summer of 2022 (after promotion), Forest have signed 42 new players for a total of around £250 million. At the end of last season, the team led by Chris Cooper finished 16th and retained their place in the Premier League. Since December 2023, Lesnikov has been training Nuno Espirito Santa.

Let us remind you that Everton was previously fined 10 points for similar violations (only on a larger scale). At the same time, the Toffees filed an appeal against the sanction, considering the punishment excessive. As a result, the Appeal Board agreed with two of the nine points on which the Liverpool club appealed the fine. In February 2024, the penalty was reduced to six points.

It was revealed in January that Nottingham could become yet another club hit for breaking the Premier League’s rules on profits and sustainability. In March, information appeared about possible sanctions against Leicester, who were relegated from the Premier League last year.

Nottigham Forest, taking into account the fine, has 21 points and dropped into the relegation zone from the Premier League. In the next round, Nuno Espirito Santo’s team will host Crystal Palace on March 30.
