Vernidub: The most important thing is to concentrate on the game and reach the Euro. I think the Ukrainian team can do it

The coach believes in the victory of the blue-yellows in the match with Iceland

Head coach Krivbassa Yuri Vernidub shared his expectations from the match Ukrainian national team against Iceland in the final playoffs of qualifying for the 2024 European Championship. According to him, the blue-yellow players need to concentrate on their game.

“I think we can. There were a lot of good matches in the Euro qualifications. There are guys who play in the top 5 championships, so they have nothing to worry about. They have the necessary skills as footballers who play in good leagues. I think everything will be fine. We have a young team. As for the physical condition, everything is fine here too.

There were a lot of conversations with the Bosnians before the game. This also played a role. It’s good that we won. We have to go out and play. What should they improve? There is already a trainer here who works with them, so he will tell you how to do it. All that remains is for the players themselves to go out onto the field and play as needed. Almost every player already has good experience in European competitions. Our foreigners also do not play for some outsiders, but for teams that are really worth something. They must prove that they are worth the status they currently have. These are Dovbik, Yaremchuk, Tsygankov, Zinchenko. We need to talk less and do more on the field. It is most important. Because we tell a lot before matches, but when we go out onto the field, everything is not so simple.

I understand that this is their job. But we need to do this a little more restrainedly. The most important thing is to concentrate on the game and reach the Euros. I think we can do it. Both the players and the coaching staff. In my opinion, Sergei Rebrov is one of the best coaches in the history of the national team. And the guys are fine. Take Sudakov from Shakhtar. He just has to come out and show his class. But not in words, but in practice. This is the main thing,” Vernidub said.

Ukraine’s nominally “home” match with Iceland will take place in Wroclaw, Poland, on March 26. The meeting starts at 21:45 Kyiv time. The match will be judged by a French team of referees led by Clement Turpin. The winner of the confrontation will advance to the 2024 European Championship, where they will play in Quartet E with Belgium, Slovakia and Romania.

Euro 2024 will take place in Germany from June 14 to July 14, 2024. The matches of the European Championship will be held in arenas in Berlin, Cologne, Dortmund, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Gelsenkirchen, Hamburg, Leipzig, Munich and Stuttgart.
