Andrey Lunev: “I think the hatred appeared when nothing was working for me at Bayer”

Goalkeeper of the Russian and Azerbaijani national teams “Karabakh” Andrey Lunev on the air of the show “Tous pour le Match!” said he had detractors during his Leverkusen career “Bayer” it did not work.

Lunev became a player for the German club in the summer of 2021, where he left Zenit. In two seasons at Bayer, he played three matches in which he conceded four goals. In June 2023, the Russian goalkeeper signed a contract with Qarabag.

— I think when I left for Bayer, there wasn’t a lot of hatred. I think the hatred appeared later, when nothing was going well for me at Bayer. And it didn’t work. First of all, I didn’t achieve my goals. And probably even more hatred when I went straight to Karabakh. I don’t pay much attention to it, but something came to me, I heard it. They are entitled to their opinion. What should I do about this? I have my own life.

I went to Bayer for a specific purpose. Unfortunately, I could not achieve this for objective and subjective reasons.

— It seems Kafanov said that you improved at Bayer, even without playing time.

“I myself feel that I have improved and looked at some things in general differently, not only in terms of the nuances of football, although that is very important if you take career things, but also certain aspects of life.

— Question from Kuzyaev: “I followed your career, I am very impressed by your game, but one question concerns me: do you think that your departure from Bayer is linked to the fact that the team has not lost for 40 matches?

— (Laughs) Especially with me, I don’t think so. I would give them all my experience, my health, my luck and I would leave it at that. I haven’t played there, so I don’t think I’m leaving. I forward this question to Serdar Azmoun. It would be interesting to hear his response.

-What kind of streak are you in now? Black? White? Gray?

– You could say it’s white. But since I’m a maximalist, I want even better. In other words, if we had overtaken Bayer, if I had played a little luckier, I would have said it was white,” Lunev said on .

Lunev is 32 years old. He moved to Qarabag in August last year. The contract is concluded until June 30, 2024.
