Warren: We’ll see ‘vintage’ Fury knocking out Usik

The promoter notes that “The Gypsy King” is already at an optimal weight and is working on his speed

Promoter Frank Warren believes that the WBC title holder Tyson Fury will get into his “vintage” shape for the fight with the WBO/WBA/IBF/IBO world heavyweight champion Alexander Usik.

“I felt that Tyson would be able to stop Usik even when the contract was signed. Fury trained very hard and got cut. There is a difference between his winter form and his return to training camp. Obviously he had a couple of weeks to recover, but he didn’t need to lose weight again.”

“Tyson is already at his optimal weight, which means he will gain speed, gain power and you will get a “vintage” Tyson Fury in the ring. He will knock out Usyk.”

The unification fight between Usik and Fury was first scheduled for February 17, but due to Tyson’s injury it was postponed to May 18. The event will be hosted by Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The WBC proposes to reform the judges for the reporting fight, increasing their number to 5-6 people. Penalties for boxers who refuse to fight are $10 million.

WBC President Mauricio Suleiman announced that an agreement had been concluded between the boxers for a re-fight. The WBO is also ready to sanction the second fight. It was reported that the fate of a possible rematch depends on the holding of the first fight. Fury said that the contract has a mandatory rematch clause, and a re-fight with Usyk could take place in October.
