The Rotan team is preparing for the 2024 Olympic Games
Head coach Olympic team of Ukraine Ruslan Rotan spoke about the friendly match against the Japan U-23 team (0:2), as well as about the preparation of his players for the 2024 Olympics.
“We had a very useful sparring against a strong opponent. We thank the Japanese for the warm welcome and for this game. Of course, we understood perfectly well that we would have a long flight, transfers, waiting, and time zone changes. Maybe that’s why we, in fact, only lasted for half. In a match with such an opponent, this is not enough. The Japanese national team is a very organized, disciplined and tactically trained team. I consider him one of the favorites of the Asian Cup (U-23).
This was just the beginning of our preparation for the Olympics. The result, of course, upsets us, but this match will benefit us. Today, the main task is to hear clear answers from the clubs regarding the release of players to the Olympic Games. We will conduct an active dialogue with them,” said Ruslan Rotan.
The match with Japan U-23 took place in Fukuoka, at the Kitakyushu Stadium. The Ukrainian team missed both goals in the match after the break.
Let us remind you that in the summer of 2024 Ukraine will take part in the Olympic football tournament for the first time. Ruslan Rotan’s team won a ticket to Paris last year, reaching the semi-finals of the European Youth Championship.
The Ukrainian national team will play at the 2024 Olympics with Argentina, Morocco and the team that will take third place at the 2024 Asian Youth Cup. In the first round, Rotan’s team will meet the Asian team on July 24.
