Shevchenko: We had faith in the team, in the coaching staff

The UAF President congratulated the Ukrainian national team on reaching the 2024 European Championship

The president Ukrainian Football Association (UAF) Andrey Shevchenko commented on the exit Ukrainian national team to the final part European Championship 2024.

“Once again I want to thank the Ukrainian Armed Forces, our guys, who give us the opportunity to play football for our country and fans. I would like to thank the President of Ukraine for the constant support of the team, every fan, everyone who cares about Ukrainian football.”

“There were very difficult matches, you understand that any mistake can be costly. The nervousness was noticeable. In the second half, when we started to control the ball well, the guys found the thread of the game. Cool goal by Tsygankov. We missed him in the first match. He got into good shape. Mudrik begins to gain momentum. We’ll wait to see what he shows at the Euro.”

“You can’t win and score in all matches, but you definitely can in important matches. The guys showed it. We had faith in the team, in the coaching staff. Sergei Stanislavovich did an incredible job, took over the team at a difficult moment and completely changed it. The team has gained character.”

“There was an understanding that even if we lose 0:1, we will never break, we will play until the end. The team did everything. There have been many comebacks this cycle, but this one is the best.”

“We believed in our victory. We have very talented people. We can overcome anything.”

The Ukrainian national team beat Iceland in the final of the playoff qualifying for Euro 2024 (2:1). The blue-and-yellows conceded in the first half, but snatched victory thanks to goals from Viktor Tsygankov and Mikhail Mudrik after the break.

Ukraine will play in the group stage of the 2024 European Championship in Quartet E with Belgium, Slovakia and Romania. Sergei Rebrov’s team will play the first match against Romania on June 17. Ticket sales for the blue-yellow matches at Euro 2024 are also open.

Ukraine will play at the European Championships for the fourth time. The blue-and-yellows have consistently competed in the finals of the continental championship since 2012.
