UEFA could extend the registration of teams participating in the European Championship to 26 players

The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) will study the possibility of extending the number of teams participating in the 2024 European Championship to 26 players, The Athletic reports.

European football’s governing body “has taken note of comments made by some national team coaches regarding squads for Euro 2024”. The decision will be made during a seminar with the participation of representatives of all teams selected for the tournament on April 8.

— The seminar will take place on April 8, UEFA will listen to the opinions of the coaches. Any ideas in this regard will be examined and evaluated,” said a UEFA representative.

In 2021, UEFA decided to increase the number of players in team applications for the European Championship from 23 to 26 due to a congested calendar. A year later, the International Football Federation (FIFA) allowed teams to register 26 players for the World Cup in Qatar.

The regulations for the European Championship, published in November 2023, provided that national team registrations would be limited to 23 players.

The European Championship will take place from June 14 to July 14 in 10 cities in Germany.
