Former Krylia Sovetov defender Ivan Taranov spoke about the possible extension of the contract of the head coach of the national team Russia Valerie Karpina with the national team.
The 55-year-old specialist’s current contract with the Russian Football Federation (RFU) expires in the summer of 2024. Karpin also serves as head coach of Rostov.
– Today, judging by how our team plays matches, I am only happy that Karpin signs a new contract with the Russian national team. In my opinion, this decision is the right one, because Karpin has worked a lot in this team. There are also difficulties and restrictions introduced quite a long time ago. Now leaving for Spartak, where he was planned to go, leaving the national team and Rostov, would be a very difficult step. The balance would have to overflow considerably for him to make such a decision. I am glad that he did not abandon the business he created,” Taranov was quoted as saying by “Championship.”
In the spring of 2022, FIFA and UEFA suspended the Russian national team from tournaments under their auspices. After that, Karpin’s team played only friendly matches.
