President Zvyagel Kostyuk: Teams should exist for the fans. There are many clubs in Ukrainian football created simply for the owner

The functionary notes that his club is one of the few in the Second League who have achieved the right to play with spectators

The president PFC Zvyagel Dmitry Kostyuk shared his opinion on the importance of the performances of a football club in his city, for his fans. At the same time, he dispelled rumors that his team plans to play home matches in Zhitomir.

“I believe that our team, which is called “Professional Football Club Zvyagel,” is obliged to play in Zvyagel. This is why I created the team, so that the team would play in Zvyagel. And the team is, first and foremost, for the fans. This is generally important, this is the philosophy of football in general – for whom clubs exist, for whom they should perform. And everyone who works at the club should understand this.”

“We have problems with infrastructure, the football club has a lot of different problems. But there are fans, which means there is a football team. It is very important. This is a very important illustrative story for me, global from the point of view of the principle of development of Ukrainian football.”

“We can look at our competitors in the Second League, we can look at teams, some in the First League and even in the Premier League. We can look historically. So, as before, teams existed and disappeared. There are a lot of teams in Ukrainian football that were created, it seems, just for the president. The president of the football club is there, he created it. The players play, well, they play for bonuses, for salaries. If the president likes the game, he enters the locker room, they will tell him, give us a bonus, an increased bonus, so they play for him. There are no fans, no city, teams move from place to place. It says that these are teams from such a city or village, but they play in a completely different one. Fans don’t go, no one watches, no one gets sick. Yes, there is a budget, there is a huge press service there, everyone works for the club, they produce high-quality material, high-quality players, it still seems to be there, right? But there are no fans. The team is playing somewhere out there, at some training bases, where, in principle, there are no stands, there is no way to accommodate fans. The question is, why does this team exist? In order for the president of the club, those who are there in the club, for the players to be pleased that we are here, that we are playing, this is a big problem. Teams should exist for the fans. This is the key and important thing that should happen in general and how Ukrainian football should develop.”

“We did everything possible to ensure that the Zvyagel football club had the legal opportunity to host fans at the stadium. We are one of three Second League clubs that will now be able to host fans at the stadium.”

Zvyagel leads the Second League with 44 points in 18 matches and is three points ahead of YUKSA. Since March 13, Nikolai Gibalyuk has been the acting head coach of the team from the Zhytomyr region. He replaced Sergei Shishchenko in this post, who went to Polesie.

On April 7, a battle of leaders will take place in Zvyagel: Gibalyuk’s team will take on YUKSA.
