The promoter sees no need to talk about such a fight before Fury fights Usyk
Head of the promotion company Top Rank Bob Arum commented on a possible meeting in the ring of the ex-world champion Anthony Joshua and holder of the WBC heavyweight belt Tyson Fury.
“Now Joshua seems to have regained his confidence. If he continues like this, he will be a very dangerous fighter.”
“Let’s think about what will happen if the Fury-Usyk fight turns out to be a classic? If it’s exciting, audiences will want to see it again. In this case, the fight between Fury and Joshua will fade into the background.”
“What if the fight is one-sided and Fury demolishes Usik? In this case, the decision will be up to His Excellency Turki Al ash-Sheikh. He may work out some kind of agreement that will lead to a Fury-Joshua fight.”
“If Usyk wins the fight, then I doubt there will be interest in a third fight with Joshua. Usik defeated him twice. Let’s see what happens. You have to take it one fight at a time, that’s my motto,” Arum said.
The unification fight between Usik and Fury was first scheduled for February 17, but due to Tyson’s injury it was postponed to May 18. The event will be hosted by Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The WBC proposes to reform the judges for the reporting fight, increasing their number to 5-6 people. Penalties for boxers who refuse to fight are $10 million.
WBC President Mauricio Suleiman announced that an agreement had been concluded between the boxers for a re-fight. The WBO is also ready to sanction the second fight. It was reported that the fate of a possible rematch depends on the holding of the first fight. Fury said that the contract has a mandatory rematch clause, and a re-fight with Usyk could take place in October.
Joshua defeated former UFC world champion Francis Ngannou in his last fight. Already in the first round, the Briton shocked the Cameroonian with a powerful blow, knocking him down. Francis managed to get up and continue the fight, but in the second round Joshua carried out another great attack and knocked out his opponent.
