The Zhytomyr club cannot win the national championship since November 2023
Acting head coach Polesie Sergey Shishchenko summed up the results of the meeting with Chernomorets (1:4) in the 22nd round of the UPL.
“I want to apologize to the fans, to the club president. I take full responsibility for today’s result.”
“As for the game, we had some great approaches in the first half. We planned pressure, and it worked for us; in some places it was not possible to switch from defense to attack, but the execution was lame. The second half was a disaster. I think we have completely failed. Then the deletion happened. It was hard to come back.”
“But I am very grateful to the guys that even with the score 1:3, the guys wanted to win back and created chances. If we had scored one more goal, then with the score 2:3 the game would have changed completely. But we took a risk and conceded the fourth goal. We will analyze the second half and figure out why this happened. But I must say that Chernomorets acted very aggressively in attack. Somewhere at some point we failed. We will figure it out, analyze and draw conclusions.”
“Third removal in the third match in a row? These are emotions, discipline. We wanted to win and please the fans. But in such moments, emotions need to be directed in a different direction in order for there to be a result.”
“I’m very pleased with the substitutions, the guys who came on – they strengthened the game. At some point, we got what we planned for the game, we could have turned it around, but the removal ruined everything. And we didn’t succeed.”
“We will get the guys out of this psychological hole and prepare for the historic match with Vorskla in the Ukrainian Cup.”
Polesie continues to go without a win in the Premier League since mid-November. In the next championship match, April 8, Sergei Shishchenko’s team will play with Minai.
On April 4, Polesie will compete with Vorskla in the semi-finals of the Ukrainian Cup.
