The coach who led Argentina to victory in the 1978 World Cup was hospitalized with severe anemia.

Former Argentina coach Cesar Luis Menotti, who led the team to victory in the 1978 World Cup, was hospitalized with “severe anemia”, Clarin reports.

The director of the national teams of the Argentine Football Federation recently felt weak and did not leave the house. When the 85-year-old’s condition worsened, they decided to hospitalize him.

After four days of treatment and blood transfusions, Menotti felt better and asked to go home, but for now the doctors decided to keep him under observation in the ward.

Menotti had previously complained of health problems, which is why he was unable to travel to Qatar for the World Cup in 2022.

At the end of August 2023, Menotti was also hospitalized. That time he fell at home, which caused “internal bleeding”, which was why he was hospitalized, and the coach was released a few days later.

Menotti has also coached several Argentine clubs, including Boca Juniors and River Plate, Spain’s Barcelona, Italy’s Sampdoria and the Mexican national team.
