While the advantage is on the side of the people of Kiev
On July 27, in the second leg of the second qualifying round of the playoffs in Istanbul at the Sukru Saracoglu stadium, Dinamo will play with Fenerbahce. This will be the 11th official visit to Turkey for the White-Blues. On the eve of the next Kiev match on the banks of the Bosporus, the Sport Arena remembered how Dynamo used to play in Turkey.
Pioneer Bursaspor
For the first time, Dynamo met with a Turkish club in an official match in the 1974/1975 season in a triumphant Cup Winners’ Cup. Then in Bursa, the white-blues in the first match of the 1/4 finals of the tournament minimally beat Bursaspor, thanks to Onishchenko’s goal. In the second leg, they consolidated their superiority by winning 2:0.
Six and a half years later, Dynamo again met with the representative of Turkey. True, this time in the Champions Cup and with another club – Trabzonspor. After a minimal victory in Kyiv – 1:0, the white-blues painted the world in Trabzon (1:1).

It is noteworthy that the second meeting with Trabzonspor, which took place as part of the Champions League qualification after 23 years, cost Oleksiy Mikhailichenko the post of head coach of Dynamo. The White-Blues, led by Mikhailichenko, lost the home match 1-2, and Jozsef Szabo took Dynamo to the return game. The permutation worked – a 2-0 win and promotion to the Champions League group.
“Beloved” Besiktas
Orly from Istanbul is Dynamo’s favorite Turkish club in terms of draw. With Besiktas, the white-blue crossed paths in European competition five times. For the first time – in the 1986/1987 season in the quarterfinals of the European Cup. In fact, the Dynamo confrontation removed the question of the winner even after the first away match, having obtained a crushing victory 5:0, thanks to doubles of Blokhin and Yevtushenko, as well as a goal by Zavarov. In the second leg, the white-blues won again – 2:0.

The second meeting of Dynamo and Istanbul Eagles took place already in the new millennium. In the 1/16 finals of the 2002/2003 UEFA Cup, where Dinamo got third place in the group with Juventus, Newcastle and Feyenoord, the white-blues lost in the first match to Besiktas in Turkey. In response, a goalless draw was recorded.
Dynamo got revenge, and how, at the same stage of the second most important European competition, which was now called the Europa League, after almost eight and a half years. In Istanbul, Dynamo simply took out Besiktas – 4:1, thanks to the goals of Vukoevich, Shevchenko, Yussuf and Gusev. And in Kyiv, the beating continued – 4:0 (Vukoevich, Yarmolenko, Gusev and Shevchenko).
And the following season, Dynamo and Besiktas exchanged home victories in the group stage of the Europa League. In Kyiv, Harmash scored against the white-blues, Korkmaz scored against Orlov in Istanbul.

The last meeting of the Kyiv club and the Orlovs at the moment is dated for the 2016/2017 season. Then the teams ended up in the same Champions League group with Napoli and Benfica. In Istanbul, Dynamo and Besiktas parted with the world – 1:1, in Kyiv, the white-blues took out the opponent with a score of 6:0, the Ukrainians scored Besedin, Yarmolenko, Buyalsky, Gonzalez, Sidorchuk and Moraes.
Two draws with Fenerbahce
As we have already written more than once before, the white-blues crossed paths with Fenerbahce in European competitions twice before the current selection. Both times in the Champions League. In qualifying for the 2006/2007 season, after a home win – 3:1, the people of Kiev defended a draw with Istanbul (2:2) thanks to Shatsky’s double.

And in the group of the 2008/2009 season, Dynamo also painted the world away match – 0:0, and won at home, thanks to Eremenko’s goal.
Total
Dynamo held 10 official matches in Istanbul. In four matches, the white-blue won, four meetings ended in a draw, in two they lost. The goal difference is 17:9 in favor of Dynamo. The best snipers of Kiev in matches in Turkey Blokhin, Yevtushenko, Shatsky, Rincon.

The rest of Ukraine has no one’s affairs
Of the Ukrainian clubs, Shakhtar, Metallist, Dnipro, Karpaty and Zorya also crossed with Turkish clubs in European competition. Dnipro was the first of these five to visit Turkey, which in the 1984/1985 season in the 1/16 finals of the European Champions Cup met with Trabzonspor. Away Ukrainians lost – 0:1, but at home they took a confident revenge – 3:0, thanks to Litovchenko’s double and Ozchaglyan’s own goal.
Metalist crossed paths with Turkish clubs three times. In the 2008/2009 season, Kharkiv in the first round of the UEFA Cup did not leave Besiktas behind: losing in Turkey (0:1), Metalist won big at home (4:1, goals scored by Zhazhi-2, Devic and Gantarchik). In the same season, the Kharkiv team beat Galatasaray away in the group stage 1:0, Edmar scored a goal.

But in the group of the Europa League-2014/2015, the advantage was on the side of Turkey. Trabzonspor beat Metalist twice: 2:1 in Kharkiv and 3:1 at home.
The Carpathians and Dawn crossed once with representatives of Turkey. In a memorable confrontation with Galatasaray in the playoffs of the 2010/2011 Europa League qualification, the Lviv team defended a draw with Istanbul – 2: 2 (goals scored by Kuznetsov and Zenev), and in Lviv they pulled out a saving 1: 1, thanks to Fedetsky’s goal in compensated by the referee time.
As for Zorya, the Luhansk team played a draw with Fenerbahce at home in the 2016/2017 Europa League group – 1:1 (Kjer answered Grechishkin’s goal in the 96th minute) and lost 0:2 in Istanbul.
The miner met with representatives of Turkey four times. In the 2009/2010 season, in the Europa League play-off round, the Pitmen beat Sivasspor twice: 3-0 away (Gai, Ilsinho, Kobin) and 2-0 at home.

Five years later, as part of the Champions League qualification, Shakhtar eliminated Fenerbahce: 0-0 in Istanbul and 3-0 at home (Gladkiy, Srna, Teixeira). A year later, the Donetsk team went through Istanbul Basaksehir in the playoffs of the Europa League qualification: 2:1 away (Kovalenko and Chikaleshi’s own goal) and 2:0 at home (Marlos and Attam’s own goal). And at the group stage they beat Konyaspor twice: 1:0 – in Konk (Ferreira) and 4:0 – at home (Dentinho, Edurado, Bernard and Bardakci’s own goal).
Total excluding Dynamo matches, Ukrainian clubs played 10 matches in Turkey. Four – won (three – Shakhtar, one – Metallist), two – ended in a draw (Shakhtar and Karpaty), four – lost (Dnepr, Zorya and Metalist – twice). The goal difference is 10:10.
