Marek Saganowski became the new coach of the Polish team
Zaglebie Sosnowiec on the club’s official website announced the termination of cooperation with the team’s head coach Alexander Khatskevich.
Together with the 50-year-old coach, sports director Mikhail Zalewski and coach-analyst Vladimir Arzhanov left the Polish team. The contracts with the specialists were terminated by mutual agreement of the parties.
The former forward of Legia, Southampton and the Polish national team became the new coach of Zaglebie Marek Saganowski. The contract with the mentor runs until the summer of 2025 with an option to extend for another season.
Saganowski’s assistant will be former Metalist, Volyn and Arsenal Kyiv player Severin Gancarchik. Let us note that he also worked at Khatskevich’s headquarters.
Khatskevich joined the Polish club in January of this year, concluding an agreement until the end of the season. The ex-football player and coach of Dynamo Kyiv replaced Arthur Derbin. In six matches under the new coach, Zaglebie scored only two points, lost the last two matches with large scores and currently closes the standings of the Polish second division.
The catalyst for the coach’s dismissal was the situation after the game with Katowice (0:4). At the press conference, Khatskevich said that he did not influence the team’s playing tactics, since during the pre-match setup the players independently, behind closed doors, discussed and adopted the strategy for the game.
Subsequently, it was reported that fans who broke into the team’s training session fought with Khatskevich, but the coach himself stated that he was not injured.
