Kavazashvili offered to reduce the number of foreigners in RPL clubs to three

Former Spartak and USSR national team goalkeeper Anzor Kavazashvili told that it is not necessary to completely abandon foreigners in Russian football, but it is worth reducing the number of legionnaires to three in RPL teams.

Deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Roman Teryushkov on the air of the program “There is a theme!” on the channel “” said that Russia should consider the issue of the complete rejection of legionnaires in domestic football.

“We don’t have to completely abandon foreigners. I offer another option – to reduce the limit of legionnaires to three people, the best. But you can also take a foreigner over the limit for a large tax, for example, for 500,000 euros. If a strong team wants to take more legionnaires, let them take, but pay 500,000 euros each. This will be the fund for the development of Russian football. We cry all the time that we have no money. Therefore, the wealthy who will donate their money should be made club presidents. And when you spend your money on the club, the managers will be professionals,” Kavazashvili told .

In March, the RFU Executive Committee approved a new Legionnaires cap, which started operating from the 2022/23 season. Each RPL club can declare up to 13 foreign players, no more than eight foreign players can enter the field at the same time.

Previously, the RPL had the ‘8+17’ format, in which the team’s bid for the season could not have more than eight legionnaires.
