Inzaghi’s team can secure the championship in the derby with Milan on April 22
Inter couldn’t beat Cagliari in the home match of the 32nd round of the Italian Serie A – 2:2.
The championship leader opened the scoring quite quickly – Marcus Thuram crossed Alexis Sanchez’s pass from the goalkeeper’s area. Later, the hosts controlled the game, but were unable to increase the score, for which they eventually paid.
In the middle of the second half, Claudio Ranieri’s team equalized the score – Eldor Shomurodov managed a strong low shot between the legs of Alessandro Bastoni, and Jan Sommer reacted late.
It took Inter less than ten minutes to take the lead again. Yerry Mina played with his hand in his own penalty area, and Hakan Calhanoglu converted the penalty.
However, the Sardinians managed to equalize the score for the second time. A throw into the penalty area, a shoulder deflection by Gianluca Lapadula – and Nicolas Viola accurately shot past Sommer.
In the remaining time, the guests were close to a sensational victory, but the same Viola, in a counterattack from close range, sent the ball straight into the hands of the Swiss goalkeeper.
With six rounds to go, Inter is 14 points ahead of Milan. In the next round we will have the Milan derby (April 22), in which Simone Inzaghi’s team, if they win, will be able to secure the Scudetto ahead of schedule.
Cagliari are in 14th place, four points clear of the relegation zone. On Friday, April 19, Ranieri’s team will host Juventus.
