Kharkiv residents saved themselves thanks to Imerekov’s goal after a corner
Metalist 1925 in a formally home match of the 24th round Ukrainian Premier League tied with SK Dnepr-1 – 1:1.
The favorite of the meeting, which took place at the capital’s Left Bank stadium, opened the scoring relatively quickly: Alexey Gutsulyak, after a pass from Eduard Sarapiya, ran away from Maxim Imerekov, beat Maryan Farina and dealt with Oleg Mozil.
Immediately, the Kharkov team had an excellent chance to win back, but Dmitry Yusov, after Vladlen Yurchenko’s throw, failed to hit the target accurately.
Yuri Maksimov’s team controlled the game and were closer to the second goal than the opponent was to the first. In the second half, Metalist 1925 had a chance to level the score, but Evgeniy Volynets, after a shot from Denis Garmash, hit the crossbar.
And yet, Viktor Skripnik’s team escaped in stoppage time. Defender Imerekov, after serving from the corner of the field, hit the crossbar with his head and immediately kicked the ball into the net.
Dnepr-1 missed the opportunity to get closer to third-placed Krivbass. Metalist 1925 with 18 points remained in 15th (penultimate) place. The Kharkiv team have not won in 12 matches in a row.
In the next round, the Dnipro team will play away against Veres, and Skrypnyk’s team will fight against Obolon.
