Marcica: “After the first training session, I thought that Sule was a champion”

Defender Frosinone Riccardo Marcica gave a long interview into the microphones of Radio Serie A. The 1998-born footballer has not played since November last year due to injury: “This injury was special and unexpected, coming at the best moment of my career both in terms of fitness and performance. This is part of the game, I immediately heard from leading experts on this type of injury. Now I am impatient, for two weeks I wanted to go and do what I did before, but the opinion of the doctor who operated on me and my feelings is to wait, this is a special injury that takes time, and perhaps it is better to wait a week more than force. Traumas like mine have to be overcome mentally, it’s difficult, especially from a psychological point of view. I am lucky that I have a family, children and a wife who, in difficult times, give me the right incentive to become strong: this is the most important thing. Work is the only thing that allows you to think not about being on the street, but about returning. I have had times when I would go out in the morning and be back in time for dinner, between physiotherapy, scar prevention and treatment, you could even lose a day. When you go out of a game and get injured, you have to work twice as hard to try to get back to the level of your teammates. It’s difficult, but my teammates helped me a lot, I will have good memories of this injury: it seems trivial to say that you will come back stronger than before, but this is not the case, you improve from a psychological point of view. Injuries are part of the game, it’s not easy, but those who fight to achieve their dreams must anticipate that there will be such moments. When I’ll come back? I’m getting better and better, weeks of work are helping me take the final step I need to play. The decision will be up to the coach.”
