The miners beat Zarya, scoring two decisive goals at the end of the meeting
Head coach Shakhtar Marino Pusic I was pleased with the team’s performance in the rescheduled match of the 10th round UPL With Zarya (3:1).
“I think, if we look at the first half, we played quite well, controlled events on the field, with the exception, perhaps, of not being aggressive enough before our first goal. But looking at how we moved forward and built our attacks, how we created opportunities and what we executed, it was very good.”
“We, of course, started the second half in the same spirit. The opponent tried to play with a very tight defense and quick counterattacks, which he does well because he has fast players for this, and even this moment was under our control. And, in my opinion, we created a sufficient number of chances to decide the fate of this match much earlier than the episode when we conceded a goal, which was the result of a transition from our standard. This shouldn’t happen – bad timing, but it happens. And that was the only episode where we could say, okay, we need to do a lot better.”
“At the same time, we kept playing and came back into the game as a really strong team. We tried to find ways to the goal, which is not easy when the opponents play very low, and finally scored two good goals and had a few more good chances.”
“The way we played and the energy we showed, the way we reacted after the 1-1 scoreline, it was a good job from us. I’m very proud of my team and this reaction. Therefore, if we look at the whole game, I think we deserved this victory.”
The miners took the lead thanks to a goal from Daniil Sikan. Zarya, playing in the minority, equalized the score. Pusic’s team managed to snatch victory thanks to goals from Artem Bondarenko and Neverton at the end of the meeting.
Shakhtar leads the UPL with 55 points. In the next match, the Miners will play against Zorya again. The match of the 25th round of the UPL is scheduled for April 22.
