The video assistants did not find a suitable angle that would allow them to see with certainty whether there was a goal after Yamal’s shot or not
Spanish Football Federation published a video in which the conversations of the referee of the meeting were made public Real Madrid – Barcelona Cesara Soto Grado with a room VAR in all controversial episodes that occurred during the match.
In the video, which lasts more than six and a half minutes, all the conversations between officials at key moments in El Clasico can be clearly heard. In particular, there is also a recording of communication between Soto Grado and the person responsible for VAR Jose Maria Sanchez Martinez in the 28th minute of the match during and after the controversial episode with the “phantom goal” of Lamin Yamal against Andrei Lunin.
In conclusion, Sanchez Martinez says the following words to the chief arbiter:
“Cesar, we are going to restart the game from the corner of the field, we have no evidence that the ball went into the goal, so the game restarts with a corner kick. We have no evidence that the ball crossed the line. Corner kick.”
During the discussion, Soto Grado noted several times that the referees do not have automatic goal detection technology. From the phrases of the video assistants, it becomes clear that none of the cameras was able to provide an angle that would allow us to see with confidence whether the entire projection of the ball crossed the goal line or not before it was stopped by Lunin’s hands.
Let us remind you that Barcelona previously requested from the Federation all available video and audio materials regarding the mentioned episode from yesterday’s match, in which Real won a dramatic strong-willed victory with a score of 3:2.
According to the president of the blue garnets, Joan Laporta, Barcelona intends to study all the documentation and, if evidence of the legitimacy of Yamal’s goal is found, seek justice, even to the point of demanding a replay of the match, citing a precedent from the Belgian championship.
The victory in El Clasico allowed the Blancos to break away from their main rival by 11 points and actually decide the outcome of the championship race in their favor.
