Double winner of the Dakar marathon rally, driver of the KAMAZ-master team Dmitry Sotnikov in an interview with , he said that he did not support any football clubs, but as a child he watched the matches of Spartak Moscow and then other Russian teams participating in European cups.
Sotnikov joined the KAMAZ-master team in 2008 and has been a driver since 2012.
— Are you able to follow football?
– Rarely now. I can’t call myself a fan of any team. As a child, I watched Spartak matches, how legends Andrei Tikhonov and Yegor Titov played. I loved “red-white” football, especially since I played at school. Then, when other clubs achieved good results in European Cups, I worried about them. Sometimes we manage to attend KAMAZ matches.
— Which football player would you put in the cockpit and shake your soul?
— Once I skated Anatoly Timoshchuk and Viktor Fayzullin, they were impressed. And now I would take Alexander Golovin with me. It would be interesting to chat with him. The guy is strong, I think he can handle it. I would also invite Andrei Arshavin, I would also like to meet him. I respect them as athletes.
— In 2019, Ak Bars hockey player Artem Lukoyanov played for the KAMAZ football team in the Russian championship match. Would you like to repeat it?
— Even if only during a friendly match and for about 10 minutes at the end (laughs). Even though I play football, it’s at an amateur level, and sometimes my knees take their toll. So it’s scary to fight them hard in the pros – I still have to go to the races,” Sotnikov told .
