Modric intends to stay at Real Madrid for another season

The 38-year-old Croatian is inspired by his recent performances and believes he can be an important part of Blancos’ game for at least another year

Luka Modric wants to stay in Real and hopes to extend his contract with the Madrid club for another season.

The 38-year-old Croatian’s current contract with the club, which he extended last summer, expires on June 30. The Croatian veteran has plenty of options to continue his career, but he is inspired by his recent performances for Real Madrid and believes he can be an important part of Carlo Ancelotti’s team for some time to come.

Clubs from Saudi Arabia have been interested in Luka for a long time – in particular, the Croatian received an offer during the winter transfer window. There is also the option of returning to Dinamo Zagreb.

In February, Ancelotti invited the player to join the Blancos coaching staff at the end of the season. However, Luka made the final decision to refuse, as his priority remains the continuation of his playing career. Subsequently, the Italian coach said that Modric’s future is in his hands, and the quality of the minutes he spends on the field is more important than their quantity.

The experienced footballer is not a solid player for Blancos this season. However, he has already played 38 matches in all competitions, scoring two goals and providing six assists.

Modric’s recent appearances with Los Blancos have been inspiring. He strengthened his team’s performance twice, coming on as a substitute in the quarter-final matches against Manchester City (3:3, 1:1 and victory on penalties), and also played a full match against Barcelona in El Clasico (3:2).

Real Madrid, for which Ukrainian goalkeeper Andrey Lunin is having a strong season, leads La Liga, 11 points ahead of Barcelona, and is close to an early title in the Spanish championship. Ancelotti’s team will play Bayern in the Champions League semi-finals (April 30 and May 7)
