2024 could be a record year in terms of money for a British boxer
On May 18, the first in almost thirty years will take place in Riyadh heavyweight unification bout between WBA/WBO/IB/IBO world champion Alexander Usik and WBC title holder Tyson Fury.
According to insiders, in addition to the status of the absolute world champion in the Royal Division, incredible fees are at stake in the fight: guaranteed inFury’s payments should be more than 50 million dollars, Usik’s – more than 30. For each fighter, the prize money will be a career record. However, in the last 10 years the Gypsy King has certainly not been deprived of money. According to estimates from specialized portals, Since 2014, Fury has earned more than $200 million in 13 fights. Let’s talk.
Second fight with Chisora. It’s hard to believe, but for the second fight in his career with Chisora (the first took place in 2011), Fury earned more than for the championship fight with Wladimir Klitschko. In November 2014, in a fight for the European and British champion titles, the Gypsy King received $12 million.
Fight with Hammer. The next fight is against the German Christian Hammer – Fury will pay $5 million.
Fight against Klitschko. It is interesting that in the fight with Vladimir Klitschko, who brought Fury to the top of Olympus, bringing the WBA, IBF, WBO, IBO and The Ring heavyweight titles, the Gypsy King earned less than for the fight with Chisora. The Briton’s fee for this fight was $7 million.
Fight with Sefer Seferi. The euphoria and depression that followed the fight with Klitschko, as a result of a long absence from the ring, affected Fury’s fees. His first fight in two and a half years with the little-known Sefer Seferi brought in a purse of two million dollars.
Fight with Francesco Pianeta. The same amount was brought to Fury by the fight with Francesco Pianeta, which took place two months after the Seferi fight.
First fight with Wilder. In 2018, Fury had a third fight – a fight with the WBC world heavyweight champion. Interestingly, the guaranteed fee for the Gypsy King was only three million dollars. But a million PPVs sold brought Tyson another seven million dollars and, most importantly, returned the Briton to large fees.
Fight with Tom Schwartz. The fight with Schwartz allowed Fury to increase his bank account by $9 million. Not bad for two rounds.
Fight with Otto Wallin. But the 13 million dollars earned for the fight with Wallin came at a much higher price and bloodshed for Fury. The fight with the Swede was very competitive, lasted all 12 rounds, and after the fight Fury received 47 stitches on his face.
Rematch with Wilder. In the re-fight with the American, Fury was guaranteed to receive $5 million. But in the end, his fee, like payments to Wilder, grew to $25 million. The boxers received 20 million from sales of paid broadcasts.
Third fight with Wilder. Fury’s guaranteed purse for the final fight of the trilogy with the Bronze Bomber was $13 million. Tyson received even more – $14 million – as a percentage of the proceeds from paid broadcasts sold.
Fight with White. Fury’s guaranteed fee was $29.5 million, White’s was $7.4 million. Taking into account bonus payments, the Gypsy King received $33.5 million for the fight.
Fight with Chisora. According to media reports, Fury’s guaranteed purse for this fight was $25 million, and he received a few more as a bonus. Payments to Chisora amounted to $4.5 million.
Fight with Ngannou. There is no exact figure for Fury’s salary. The guaranteed payments to the Gypsy King were $50 million. Plus – a percentage of the amount earned from the sale of paid broadcasts. Tyson himself stated that he earned $61 million for the fight with Ngannou.

It is important to understand that of the fees announced in the media and by insiders, the boxer keeps 50%-55% for himself. The rest is “eaten up” by taxes, payments to the coach/manager/team, and expenses for paying for the training camp. But even the $100 million Fury has earned over the past 10 years makes the Briton one of the most commercially successful boxers. And if the fight with Usik on May 18 takes place, not to mention the prescribed rematch, the Gypsy King will finally be able to top the Forbes 2024 ranking of the richest athletes in the world, where in 2022 he was in 18th place, given the interest in fights and the amount of announced fees.
By the way, Fury, like Usik, makes money not only from boxing. But more on this in the next article.
