Mikolenko: I feel like I’m playing much better this season than last

The Ukrainian is one of Everton’s key players

Ukrainian defender Everton Vitaly Mikolenko spoke about his performance this season. Vitaly also commented on the upcoming derby with Liverpool in the postponed match of the 29th round of the Premier League.

“I like to have games every three or four days. It’s especially good when you win, I feel like you can recover much better. When you lose, you feel bad emotions, and as a player it’s harder for me to recover after a loss. It’s possible to recover physically, but mentally it’s more difficult.”

“It’s always a pleasure to play at home. Our fans are amazing every game and I want to say thank you to them every time. You really feel it on the pitch, especially at Goodison.

Even when we lose games, they are waiting for us after the game. “I want to say a huge thank you to our fans because it’s been a tough season – tough for the players and tough for the fans, but we really appreciate their continued support.”

“When I arrived at Everton two years ago, I felt the love of our fans from the very first game. I always try to help my team and fight for Everton. In football, the most important thing for me is to play 100 percent in every game, and I feel like I’m playing much better this season than last year. I feel like I’m becoming more consistent and that’s very important.”

“Of course, it’s more difficult for me to talk about history than for local guys, but I know exactly what kind of derby this is. It means a lot to our fans, to our team and to the people at the club… Just a couple of days ago Seamus [Коулмэн] made sure everyone knew what this meant for the fans. I’m sure it will be an energetic atmosphere and we will be ready.”

Mikolenko moved to Everton in January 2022, signing a contract until the summer of 2026. It was reported that the transfer amount was 21 million euros. This season, the Ukrainian has played 33 matches for the Toffees in all competitions, scoring two goals.

Everton are in 16th place in the Premier League, five points clear of the relegation zone. The Toffees take on Liverpool in the Merseyside Derby today.
