Former CSKA midfielder and 2005 UEFA Cup winner Evgeny Aldonin, commenting on statements by former head coach of French Auxerre Guy Roux about possible corruption of referees in the UEFA Cup match of the 2004 season /05, told that he doesn’t remember the referee blaming the France team.
Previously, Roux suggested that the team of referees who officiated the 2004/05 season’s UEFA Cup quarter-final against CSKA Moscow could have been bribed. He noted that one of his team’s players found a “watch with rubies” in the judges’ bag. The first match took place in Moscow on April 7, 2005 and ended with a score of 4: 0 in favor of the home team; in the return match in France on April 14, Auxerre won a victory – 2: 0. The main referee of the second match was the German Wolfgang Stark.
– How old is Gi Ru now? 85? He remembers what happened 20 years ago, some kind of corruption. I don’t understand what precedents there were in the match. I don’t remember the judge who sentenced Auxerre. “It’s all over,” Aldonin told .
In 2005, CSKA won the UEFA Cup; in the final of the tournament, Valery Gazzaev’s team defeated Portuguese Sporting 3: 1.
Guy Roux managed Auxerre for over 40 years, under his leadership the team became French champions and won the Coupe de France four times.
