Devin previously stated his desire to fight Ryan again
WBC junior welterweight belt holder Devin Haney commented on his likely rematch against Ryan Garciato which he sensationally lost last week.
“First of all I want to say… Allah is the perfect planner and I trust his plan no matter what. I failed, but that’s boxing. Anyone who knows me knows that I am a true fighter and have always wanted to test my skills against the best fighters in the world.”
“Ryan, despite the circumstances, won that night, and that’s okay. I feel like weight played a role in this, but only Allah knows. I would like to come back and give the fans a FAIR fight at the agreed upon weight.”
Let us remind you that the Haney-Garcia fight took place in Brooklyn, at the Barclays Center. Devin was knocked down three times during the fight. According to the judges’ notes, Ryan triumphed with scores of 114:100 and 115:109. Another judge recorded a draw (112:112).
Garcia, despite the victory, did not take the championship belt from Haney, as he exceeded the agreed weight category limit. According to WBC head Mauricio Sulaiman, the belt does not become vacant, but remains with Devin. After the defeat, Haney himself immediately hinted at revenge.
According to his father Bill, Devin is now taking a break from his career, in particular due to the damage he received in his last fight.
