Ukrainian midfielder Bordeaux by Daniil Ignatenko accused of insulting an opponent on racial grounds. The disciplinary committee of the French Professional Football League has launched an investigation into the incident in the home match of the 34th round of Ligue 2 with Dunkirk (2:0).
Guest defender Alioun Ba and Dunkirk captain Opa Sangante complained to the referee about the Ukrainian in the 60th minute of the meeting, claiming that Ignatenko had insulted Ba on racial grounds. The judge noted this episode and his reaction to it in the protocol, but Ignatenko did not receive any card. It is noted that Ba criticized the referee for his inaction after the match.
Bordeaux has also reportedly launched an internal investigation. A club spokesman told French media that “everyone in the team knows that he is not a racist.”
Ignatenko started in Bordeaux. In the 74th minute the midfielder was replaced. In total, the Ukrainian played 32 matches for the club this season, scoring two goals and providing one assist.
Bordeaux are in 14th place in Ligue 2 with 44 points. In the next round, Ignatenko’s team will play away against Laval on April 27.
