Veres missed the victory over Rukh during the second half of the match
Acting head coach Veresa Oleg Shandruk commented on the defeat from Rukh (1:3) in the match of the 26th round Ukrainian Premier League.
“This is the worst second half we have played in the spring part of the season. It’s difficult to give a truly objective assessment immediately after the game. But in such matches, when there is a good half, when we have an advantage in the score, the team must play more reliably in front of its own goal.”
“I really want to see the first goal we missed. I can’t say now who made the main mistake in that episode. We 100 percent didn’t finish that episode. Plus, the question is whether Bogdan Kogut could have reached this ball. The second goal is also our mistake. Rukh has individually strong performers who punish for this. I repeat: after a successful first half, you can’t play like that in the second.”
“Of course we wanted to win. We need glasses. Even draws can save us. Therefore, we are forced to play actively. Of course, adhering to our principles of playing defensively. But we must play actively. There was no such activity today after the break. Why? We will talk about this with the team.”
“Regarding substitutions, we didn’t make any during the break because we were in complete control of the game in the first half. But in football it is impossible to predict everything. The players, having played perfectly in the first half, completely failed in the second. I can only apologize to the fans who came to Lviv today to support us.”
Veres won the first half (1:0), but after the pause they conceded three times against the Lviv team. Shandruk’s team is in 14th position in the standings.
On May 1, Veres will play the rescheduled match with Dynamo, after which they will host Minaj (May 6).
