Moroz’s young wards won a strong-willed victory in the confrontation between the group leaders
Ukraine youth football team U-16 (not older than 2008) won a strong-willed victory over her peers from Luxembourg and took first place in UEFA Development Tournament – 3:1.
Before the last round, the team of the dwarf state was in the lead in the standings, the blue-yellows were one point behind. To win the tournament, Yuri Moroz’s team needed to win.
This task was made more difficult by the results of the first half, which Luxembourg won thanks to an earned and converted penalty. But after the break, the Ukrainian youths put everything in its place.
Moroz’s team made a comeback in the middle of the half thanks to goals from Dmitry Zudin from Hajduk (the second goal of the tournament) and Alexander Kroitar from Rukh. The result was secured at the end of the meeting by Artem Korzh, midfielder of SK Dnepr-1.
Let us remind you that in the opening round the young Ukrainians played a draw with the Northern Ireland team (2:2), after which they lost in a penalty shootout. In the second round, the blue-yellows beat Estonia (3:1). In the final standings, our compatriots took first place with seven points.
This tournament became for Ukrainian juniors one of the stages of preparation for the qualification of youth Euro 2025, which will take place in the fall of 2024. In June, the Moroz team is scheduled to participate in the Dream Cup 2024 tournament in Japan.
