For the first time since 1992, Ukraine managed to win three gold medals at the European Championships
Ukrainian artistic gymnastics team completed European Championship 2024 victory in team all-around.
The men’s national team qualified for the finals of the competition with a score of 253.661 points.
In the final, Ukraine competed for gold with Great Britain. After exercises on four apparatuses, our compatriots took second place. The greatest contribution to the result at this stage was made by Oleg Vernyaev and Ilya Kovtun (exercises on the pommel horse), as well as Igor Radivilov (on the rings).
In the end, everything was decided by Kovtun’s performances on the horizontal bar (15.800 points – updating his personal best) and parallel bars. At the last moment, the blue-yellows got ahead of their British rivals and won gold medals at the continental championship for the second time in history.
Let us recall that earlier at the 2024 European Championships among men, which was hosted by Italian Rimini, Vernyaev took second place in the all-around, Kovtun won individual gold medals on parallel bars and high bar, and Nazar Chepurny became a bronze medalist in vault.
For the first time since 1992, Ukraine won three gold medals at once at one European Championship.
Very soon, from the second to the fifth of May – also in Italy – the continental championship in artistic gymnastics among women will take place.
