Ex-Dynamo football player passed away at the age of 75
The former head coach of the Ukrainian national team has died Mikhail Fomenko. The ex-mentor of the blue-yellows was 75 years old.
Fomenko is a graduate of Sumy football, played for Zarya and Dynamo. He became the champion of the USSR three times, won the Cup Winners’ Cup and the UEFA Super Cup in 1975.
Fomenko ended his playing career early due to injuries, and in 1979 he began coaching. Mikhail Ivanovich headed Desna, Krivbass, Avtomobilist, Dynamo, Veres, CSKA, Metalist, Tavriya and other clubs. As part of Dynamo, they won the Ukrainian championship in 1993.
From 2012 to 2016, Fomenko led the Ukrainian national team. Under his leadership, the blue-yellows reached the finals of the 2016 European Championship.
