The famous Ukrainian football specialist struggled with a deadly disease in the last years of his life.

The former coach of the Ukrainian national football team, Mikhail Fomenko, has passed away. According to the Sumy Region Football Association, the famous specialist died at 7 am on Monday, April 29, at the age of 75.

Let’s remember that Mikhail Ivanovich graduated from Spartak Sumy, where his career began, then played for Zarya Lugansk and Dynamo Kiev.

He achieved his greatest success as a player in the club of the capital, where he played from 1972 to 1978. As a member of the white and blue, he became the champion of the USSR three times, won the Cup Winners’ Cup and the UEFA Super Cup.

Back problems forced him to end his playing career, after which he began teaching. He led Dynamo, Metalist, Veresk and other clubs. With the people of Kiev, he won the UPL championship title and the Ukrainian Cup.

In 2012, Fomenko led the Ukrainian national team from 2012, where he worked until 2016. Under his leadership the “blue-yellows” qualified for Euro 2016. After the failure of the continental championship, left Fomenko in the national team and ended his coaching career.

In recent years, Fomenko has had health problems and last summer it was learned that Mikhail Ivanovich was struggling with cancer.

We remind you that the legendary German football player and coach Franz Beckenbauer died earlier.
