The UPL newcomer took revenge from the Poltava team for the recent defeat in the Cup
Polesie won a labor victory at home over Vorskla in the final match of the 26th round Ukrainian Premier Leaguescoring the only goal at the end of the meeting – 1:0.
The fight took place in a tough fight with a minimum of dangerous moments. The advantage in the game was on the side of the Zhytomyr team, although Vorskla also had approaches to the opposing goal.
The first half did not bring any goals, and after the break the opponents did not become much more active. But still, the hosts managed to take advantage of the Poltava team’s mistake.
The only goal came ten minutes before the end of regular time: Emil Mustafaev covered Ivan Nesterenko in someone else’s penalty area and rolled in a shot from Alexandra Nazarenko. Vorskla could not respond with anything special, except for Felipe’s hit in the hands of Oleg Kudrik.
Sergei Shishchenko’s team won a difficult victory (at the same time taking revenge on their opponent for the recent home defeat in the Cup semi-finals), scored 42 points and continued the race behind Rukh and Dnepr-1, which occupy places in the European Cup zone. Vorskla remained in eighth place – Sergei Dolgansky’s team no longer has any special tournament tasks.
In the next round, Polesie will host Zarya, and Vorskla will play with the outsider Metalist 1925, desperately in need of points. For the Poltava team, this match will be important, because the Kharkov team is coached by Viktor Skripnik, who left Vorskla during the season.
