In an interview with ‘GE’, Rodolfo Landim, president of Flamengo, spoke about Gabigol’s contract renewal process
O Flamengo cannot count on the services of Gabigol at the moment, as the athlete is suspended after delaying an anti-doping test carried out last year. However, even though the striker’s sentence is annulled, it may be that the number 10 is living his last moments at Mengão, as his contract ends at the end of 2024.
Even though no agreement has been announced, Flamengo has been taking care of this issue with the athlete and his staff for a few months. That way, Rodolfo Landimpresident of the Rio club, gave updates on the ongoing negotiations, in an interview with ‘GE’.
In Landim’s view, there is no better place for Gabigol than Flamengo. “I don’t understand that there is any better place for him to continue his career than at Flamengo. Why? In addition to the years he will have in salary playing football, he will be able to enjoy this idolatry of having been an idol during that very winning period for Flamengo, and I hope he continues to do so.”said the agent.
Regarding the negotiation, the president revealed that conversations have been going on for some time and, despite many exchanges between the parties involved, nothing has been achieved. “We had long negotiations with him, but we didn’t reach an agreement. If he had arrived, we would have signed a contract with him. We never stopped talking to him”he stated.
To conclude and make it clear what the situation is, there has not yet been an agreement between the two parties. However, if it happens, Landim guaranteed that the renewal will be signed quickly. “At no time did I say ‘yes’. If I spoke, the paper would quickly arrive here. Now, the discussions and things that he could have accepted… Basically, the culmination of a negotiation occurs with the formalization of it through written documents, which did not happen”he completed.
