Former Shakhtar coaches Roberto De Zerbi and Paulo Fonseca remain among the candidates
Milan refused the invitation Julena Lopetegui for the post of head coach.
The Rossoneri management had previously targeted the Spaniard as a replacement for Stefano Pioli. However, the news quickly met with resistance from fans. A petition against Lopetegui’s appointment received 10,000 votes in less than 48 hours. The club also began to fear protests in the stands, so they abandoned the Spaniard.
Among the likely candidates for the post of head coach are two former Shakhtar mentors – Paulo Fonseca, who heads Lille, and Roberto De Zerbi, who coaches Brighton. The backup option is ex-Rossoneri player and now Antwerp head coach Mark van Bommel.
Milan is in second place in Serie A, Pioli’s team has failed to win five matches in a row in all tournaments. The Rossoneri will next face Genoa on May 5.
