Ryan earned praise from his compatriot for his victory over Haney
WBO world junior welterweight champion Teofimo Lopez (19-1, 13 KOs) said that he sent a proposal for a fight Ryan Garcia (25-1, 20 KOs).
“I talked to the team, I talked to the Top Rank lawyer, I talked to all of them and I was clear about what I wanted. We sent a proposal to Ryan and his team for a fight that we want to do in September or December. It doesn’t even have to be in my weight class, it can be an intermediate weight and then we won’t have a problem moving forward.”
“Everyone was delighted with what Ryan was doing [против Хэйни]. He played his part, he did his bit, he went out and did what he said he would do. Congratulations, he played smart. They have their own plans, so I’m just waiting here. They will do what they are going to do, but we will see what happens next,” Teofimo concluded philosophically.
At the end of March, it was reported that Lopez was completing negotiations for a fight with Steve Claggett, which is scheduled for June 29 and should take place in Miami. However, this fight has not yet received official confirmation.
Last June, Teofimo announced that he was retiring as a boxer and renouncing the championship title, but later changed his mind about leaving boxing and announced his readiness to defend his belt. The American managed to challenge the absolute world lightweight champion Devin Haney.
On the night of February 9, 2024, Lopez retained his WBO junior welterweight title by defeating Jemaine Ortiz by unanimous decision.
On the night of April 21, the aforementioned Haney sensationally lost to Ryan Garcia by decision of the judges, being knocked down three times during the fight. Despite the loss, Devin retained the WBC junior welterweight title as Garcia exceeded the stipulated weight class limit. Haney immediately started talking about revenge, after which he decided to take a break from his career.
