Gum talks about retirement, family and football career

In an exclusive interview with Athletistic, the former Fluminense player outlined his next steps and opened up about his chances of saying goodbye to Tricolor

After more than two decades of professional career, the player Gum considers his retirement from the field. The defender shared, in an exclusive interview with Athletisticthat your priority will be your family and quality time spent with them.

Furthermore, the formerFluminense spoke about his time at the Rio club, the position offered by the club’s board of directors CRBthe chances of having a farewell game, among other topics.

“I reflect a lot on the coming years. I had some proposals at the end of last year for this year, about ten, 15 proposals, but four of them were very interesting. And I was supposed to play football and then take up a position on the board.”revealed Gum.

“I felt very honored, but I told them (presidents and representatives) that my wife has been waiting for me to retire for three or four years.”

Gum highlighted that he has not yet made a definitive decision about his future, but admitted that he does not want to miss important stages in his life because of work: “Any stress in my marriage, the lack of being together with my wife, or the lack of character in my children, because I was not present and could not teach principles, will generate such great pain in my heart… And the time never comes back.”

When asked what his ideal farewell would be like, the defender highlighted that he would like to do it at Fluminense or CRB, and that conversations are ongoing. In the case of the Rio club, legal and debt issues could disrupt the plan, but Gum demonstrated peace of mind with any developments.

“Because of the history I have with the club, many people want me to say goodbye, but, due to this situation, it sometimes ends up holding me back a little. I am at peace, but this could happen in the future if they understand that I had no choice.”, stuck. If he chooses to continue playing, the defender highlighted that he has no clear objectives remaining for his “last dance”:

“My heart still burns with the desire to play, but today I have the challenge of being a good husband, a good father, present, a good son for Mrs. Roseli, who has been away for years. Sharing what we missed for many years. The young man in the back, Welington who became the ‘Gum Warrior’, is fulfilled with everything achieved. There was nothing missing in my career. I saw everything. I have a lot of gratitude in my heart for living every moment.”
