The Mexican veteran is likely to join the upcoming MLS newcomer as a free agent
Goalkeeper Salernitani Guillermo Ochoa is negotiating with FC San Diegowhich will debut next year in MLS.
As it became known earlier, the 38-year-old Mexican will not renew his contract with the Italian club, which expires on June 30, and will most likely move to San Diego as a free agent in the summer.
San Diego is a new club created in 2023. It is partly owned by British-Egyptian businessman Mohamed Mansour. The Siquan Tribe of the Kumeyaay Nation, an indigenous California tribe, is also co-owned. The project is also being helped by famous baseball player Manny Machado, who plays for the San Diego Padres.
San Diego will officially join MLS in 2025, becoming the league’s thirtieth team.
Over the course of his long career, which has spanned more than two decades, Ochoa played for his native America, French Ajaccio, Spanish Malaga and Granada, Belgian Standard, again America, until he joined Salernitana at the end of 2022. He also played 151 matches for the Mexican national team.
This season, Guillermo played 21 matches for the club (only one of them was a clean sheet) and conceded 44 goals. The veteran missed many tours due to injuries. Salernitana scored only 15 points in 34 rounds, conceded the most goals and was knocked out of Serie A early.
