The coach believes his players lacked intensity
Mentor Real Madrid Carlo Ancelotti summed up the results of the first game with Bayern (2:2) in the semi-finals Champions League.
“We had to defend in the first half, but we didn’t do it with the intensity I expected. In the second half they took the lead, but it seemed to me that we started pressing better. My overall impression is that we felt pretty comfortable, but lacked optimal intensity. In such a situation, you will definitely be punished – everyone in the world knows about it.”
“Thanks to Kroos we had good possession and Bayern didn’t really put too much pressure on us in terms of possession. There were free zones. We expected them to play with a high defensive line, which is what they did. Thanks to Toni and Vinicius we took advantage and scored the first goal. Fantastic pass, fantastic finish.”
“Kroos played well throughout the match. Jude’s [Беллингема] there were slight cramps, so when I made replacements, I was looking for fresh strength. Something needed to change and we had resources on the bench that I wanted to use. We are now in a great position in the Spanish Championship and in this semi-final too – now we have to give everything we have to get to Wembley.
Kroos assisted Vinicius on Los Blancos’ first goal. At the end of the meeting, Rodrigo earned a penalty, and Vinicius set the final score of the match – 2:2.
The return match between Real Madrid and Bayern will take place on May 8 in Madrid.
