The 1986 world champion died on November 25, 2020 at the age of 60 following a heart attack. An autopsy showed that the cause of death was acute pulmonary edema caused by chronic heart failure, and heart pathology was also detected – dilated cardiomyopathy. After his death, doctors and nurses who treated Maradona in his final hours were accused of leaving him untreated for several hours, which worsened his condition. The eight defendants, including psychiatrist Agustina Kosachev, face up to 25 years in prison if convicted.
According to Kosachev’s lawyer, it is possible that Maradona’s cardiac arrest was caused by the use of a toxic substance.
Recall that throughout his life, Maradona struggled with cocaine addiction.
