Luis Enrique confident about rematch with Dortmund: ‘We have nothing to lose’

The Spanish coach spoke after PSG’s defeat in Germany in the semi-final first leg of the Champions League. The Parisian team will have to come back from a 1-0 score.

Borussia Dortmund won the first leg of their Champions League semi-final against Paris Saint-Germain. At home at Signal Iduna Park, the Germans narrowly beat the French, thanks to Niklas Füllkrug’s goal. BVB has a slight advantage before the rematch, which will be played next Tuesday, May 7 at the Parc des Princes.

After the match, the Parisians’ Spanish coach, Luis Enrique, spoke to the media and gave his impressions. “We saw a balanced game with two teams playing good football when they have the ball. We both generated plenty of scoring chances. This time the rival scored and we didn’t. It is a result that reflects equality on the playing field,” said the former coach of the Spanish team.

“I’m sure it’s the first time in the competition that Dortmund will play the second match away. These are different and new scenarios. We have nothing more to lose. Whatever the result, we would have won the match. Exceptional atmosphere from the German supporters and Parisians who came here. In Paris, we will be supported by our public,” he added.

The Asturian continued his analysis of the match which made the difference between the first and second half: “Our goal was to put pressure on. Dortmund are a team capable of playing short passes with the ball and with Füllkrug they can play long passes. I think the match was very close. In the first half, we were less intense in attack without generating any real danger, in the second it was different.

“It’s football. Often it’s wonderful. Other times it happens. We would have preferred to be in a better situation. It was a balanced match. We knew it wouldn’t be easy. The locker room is a little affected. “In Paris, we will be very strong and we have nothing to lose” the DT said, confident in his ability to retaliate for revenge.

On the winning side, there was satisfaction. Complete mat , the scorer of the day, declared: “I am very proud of the team. We played well with the ball and on the counterattack. There were times in the match where they also had good chances. They have a lot of quality and it’s difficult to defend them. The pass they gave me in goal was incredible. Regarding the revenge in Paris, he replied: “We’ll see. We’re in a good position, but we’ll have to be patient and defend very well in the second leg. Let’s see how things develop.”
